Innovate Awarding is a UK-based awarding organisation delivering End-Point Assessment (EPA) services across apprenticeship standards. As EPA volumes expanded through new training provider and employer contracts, the organisation’s reliance on Microsoft Teams for live invigilation began constraining operational scalability and compliance consistency.

With high-stakes assessments requiring structured auditability and consistent invigilation quality, Innovate Awarding required a purpose-built proctoring system capable of supporting growth without proportional increases in invigilator headcount.

Challenge

  • 1:1 invigilation dependency: Microsoft Teams required one invigilator per candidate, forcing deployment of 6+ invigilators daily and creating a linear cost and capacity constraint.

  • Manual malpractice detection: All monitoring was human-led, with no AI-based flagging, risk scoring, or real-time anomaly detection across sessions.

  • Limited assessment workflow support: Teams did not support pre-checks, environment validation, post-session feedback capture, or operational reporting, creating fragmented exam delivery processes.

These constraints collectively limited scalability, increased operational overhead, and reduced consistency in compliance reporting across growing assessment volumes.

The Solution

Talview deployed its Live Remote Proctoring platform as a full replacement for Microsoft Teams, enabling structured, scalable, and audit-ready assessment delivery.

  • Replaced 1:1 invigilation with a 1:4 AI-assisted proctor-to-candidate ratio, reducing invigilator dependency while maintaining live oversight.

  • Introduced timestamped session recording, 10-second screen capture, and per-candidate playback, enabling structured compliance audits.

  • Enabled AI-based malpractice detection with configurable risk thresholds and real-time alerts during live sessions.

  • Standardised end-to-end workflows including candidate practice assessments, feedback capture, and automated reporting dashboards.
